What is Acupressure?

Acupressure is an ancient asian healing art using finger pressure on key points to stimulate the body's own curative powers. Acupressure encourages increased circulation, health and harmony. When Acupressure points are used the body can deeply relax. Acupressure also encourages reduced stress and strengthens your immune system, making it more resistant to disease. This helps reestablish the body's balance and general overall well-being.

How does Acupressure work?
There are many schools of Chinese Acupressure. I use several styles of applying finger pressure, some are more active like massage and others more soft and gentle.

My favorite style of acupressure, I call Listening Hand, where each hand gently holds a point. This quietly and slowly relaxes and stimulates the area I'm focusing on. When two points are held together a rythmic balance can be stimulated which harmonizes like two tuning forks bringing forth one gentle harmonious tone.

I also enjoy using a more active form of acupressure, called Tui Nah Massage. With Tui Nah I use more active touching (similar to traditional massage) which will feel more like a Swedish or deep-tissue massage. The Tui Nah method differs in that it also employs the use of acupressure points and soft tissue (muscle) strokes that can be very effective in opening joints and encouraging your muscles, tendons, and ligaments to relax and loosen. It also increases your circulation and the health of your whole body.
